The Detroit News reports the Detroit Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is investing in Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s Next Detroit neighborhood revitalization plan by purchasing a new building for their chapter headquarters. The 700-member chapter reportedly has $3 million earmarked for a new headquarters building. A purchase has not yet been made, but the 60,000 square-foot building will reside in the Osborn High School area of Detroit. Chapter President Anitta Orr emphasized Delta’s committment to community service:
Our main thrust is public service. It is not how much beer you can drink or the toga you can wear.
The Detroit Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was chartered in 1939. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will celebrate its 95th Anniversary today, January 13, 2008.
